Harvard Medical School Advanced OR Observerships in Neurosurgery and ENT

Stepping into the Operating Room at Harvard Medical School (BIDMC) means entering one of the most critical and technologically advanced clinical environments in the world. I recently completed an advanced OR observership focusing on Neurosurgery and Head and Neck Surgery, an experience that profoundly shaped my clinical perspective.

This immersion was distinct and more focused than a regular clinical rotation. Spending my days in the OR at a premier medical institution allowed me to truly understand the technological evolution of the field firsthand. I was particularly captivated by the intricate details of open brain surgery and the complex, life-altering nature of head and neck procedures. Observing advanced flow diversion techniques for brain aneurysms demonstrated the absolute cutting edge of surgical innovation.

My foundation lies in intensive neuroscience and genetics research, where I am constantly driven by the fundamental how and "why" of human pathology. This observership served as the vital bridge between that research anf life-saving interventions in the theater. Seeing these pathologies treated in real time grounds the scientific data in profound human reality.

I want to extend my sincerest thanks to my exceptional mentors and distinguished surgeons: Prof. Philipp Taussky, Prof. Christopher S. Ogilvy, and Prof. Christopher D. Brook. Their supervision and willingness to welcome me into their ORs provided an unparalleled learning experience.
