Google DeepMind recently featured us (Alper and Taner Karagöl) in a milestone post titled "AlphaFold: Five Years of Impact." Authored by Nobel laureates Demis Hassabis and John Jumper, the article recognizes our scientific contributions to. Being highlighted by the developers of this breakthrough technology emphasizes the global impact of our unique research.
Our research trajectory began during the pandemic through independent study. Since that time, we have established a framework for modeling complex molecular machines, resulting in more than 30 publications. The DeepMind post notes our work applying the QTY code, a protein design method developed by Prof. Zhang from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). By utilizing the QTY code, we redesign complex membrane-bound structures into water-soluble variants. This provides an atomic-level view of transporter dynamics in aqueous environments, which is essential for designing targeted therapeutics for neurological conditions.
The article specifically highlights our contributions within its "Expanding access" section. Directing these studies represents a major professional milestone for us. Being acknowledged by Hassabis and Jumper under this specific category validates our commitment to the rigorous application of advanced modeling and underscores the true value of global scientific access.
